The security card is the card with a code that identifies a high security lock cylinder and its set of keys. Depending on the brand it is called a security card, a key security card or a control card, but it does the same job.

It is used to prove that the system is yours when new keys have to be ordered. That is why it should not be kept on your key ring or in your wallet alongside the keys.

If you have bought a property and nobody has given you the card, or you have lost it, bear in mind that you do not know how many keys to that door exist or who can order more. In that case the sensible thing is to change the lock cylinder and start afresh with a new card in your name.
