Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost municipality in the province of Alicante and in the whole of the Valencian Community. It borders the Region of Murcia, with San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier, and Orihuela to the north. Until 1986 it was part of the municipality of Orihuela, from which it separated to become a municipality in its own right. From Torrevieja it is about twenty-five kilometres along the N-332 or the motorway, depending on which part you are heading to.
A municipality with a farming town and a holiday coast
Two realities live side by side here. The town, inland, is still closely tied to agriculture: its municipal area has in the order of 350 hectares of greenhouses. And on the coast, tourism has grown a great deal in recent decades, largely in the form of second homes.
According to the INE, Pilar de la Horadada now has more than 24,000 inhabitants, and in 2022 almost four out of ten were foreign nationals. If you would rather speak in your own language, write to us on WhatsApp in whichever one you like.
The coast: Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras
Torre de la Horadada is the traditional beach village, surrounded by urbanisations. Mil Palmeras, further north, is the municipality’s other beach area. There is also El Mojón, which shares its territory with San Pedro del Pinatar.
On the coast the pattern repeats itself: homes that fill up in summer and at weekends and are shut for the rest of the year, many of them on the ground floor, with shutters facing the street or the garden, and complexes with communal areas and an entrance gate.
The town: houses and flats lived in all year round
In the town of Pilar there are flats, one or two-storey houses and ground floor shops. These are homes lived in all year round, with a different kind of wear: heavily used lock cylinders, old locks and metal shutters on shops that are used every day. For businesses, we provide commercial premises and business opening and shutter lock repairs.
What we are asked for most in Pilar de la Horadada
On the coast
- Door opening in summer, with the keys inside the apartment or lost on the beach. We explain it under door opening in Pilar de la Horadada.
- Shutter reinforcement in Pilar de la Horadada for bungalows and ground floor homes that spend the winter shut. We reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent, with a steel T-profile underneath the bottom slat and bolts that lock into the wall.
- Checking locks and terrace doors before shutting up the house in September.
In the town
- Lock cylinder replacement because of wear or after losing the keys.
- Modernising old locks on family homes that do not give you the security you need today.
- Doors that have dropped or rub and no longer close properly.
In both
When you buy a resale home, whether it is a flat in the town or a bungalow in Mil Palmeras, we recommend you change the lock cylinder on the same day you are handed the keys. You do not know how many copies are still out there.
Salt air on the seafront
In Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada, locks suffer from the sea air. If you notice the key goes in roughly or you have to force it to turn, do not wait for it to snap. A replacement or a clean in good time saves you being locked out in the middle of August.
How we work
We give you a fixed quote before we start; send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will reply. If the job turns out to be different when we arrive, we let you know and do not carry on until you are happy. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. Before opening any door, we check that the person asking has the right to enter.
