Pilar de la Horadada is the last municipality in the province of Alicante before the Region of Murcia, about twenty-five kilometres south of Torrevieja. It has two worlds: the village, inland and closely tied to farming, and the coast, with Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras, where a good share of the homes are holiday homes. The shutters that concern us most are on the coast.
Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada
Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada fill up in summer and at weekends. The rest of the year many houses are shut. What we see most there:
- Ground floor homes in complexes with a front terrace or garden and the living room shutter at ground level.
- Ground floor bungalows with the bedroom window facing a side.
- Townhouses with a back patio, where the kitchen or a bedroom shutter faces an area nobody can see.
A beach home shut for months, with the shutters down, is exactly the case where reinforcement makes most sense.
The village
In the centre of Pilar houses are lived in all year. There the shutter goes up and down every day and there are neighbours around. Even so, there are also ground floor homes with windows onto inner patios or backs where nobody passes. If you have one like that, it is worth a look.
What the reinforcement is like
We do it on the bottom slat, the lowest one, which is the only one that can be gripped from outside. Underneath it we glue and screw a T-shaped steel profile of 4 mm. The T shape does not bend in any direction, and the slat, joined to it, does not either. At both ends there are bolts that slot into the wall, so there is nowhere to lift it from. We reinforce roller shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent. The full explanation is in roller shutter security.
If you find the shutter has been tampered with
If, when you get back to your house in Mil Palmeras or La Torre, you see the bottom slat bent, scratched or out of its guides, do not force it. Take photos as it is and see what to do in forced or lifted shutter. With the photos we tell you whether it can be saved and reinforced.
Before you shut up the beach house
The best time is at the end of the summer, before you leave the property. Start with the shutter that is least visible from the street and with the ground floor ones that can be reached standing up. If you have a house in the village and another on the coast, start with the one that spends more time empty.
Send us photos
To find out whether your shutter can be reinforced, send us on WhatsApp a photo of the lowered shutter from outside, another of the bottom part and another of both sides. If it can be done, we give you a fixed quote before we start. If you live abroad or speak another language, message us in yours.
