Roller shutter security in San Miguel de Salinas

The San Miguel urbanisations have many single storey houses on streets with little passing traffic. We reinforce their roller shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent.

San Miguel de Salinas lies inland, about twelve kilometres from Torrevieja, and is the highest town in the Vega Baja, at around 75 metres above sea level. Its village centre is small, but around it there is a long list of urbanisations: Blue Lagoon, Aldea del Monte, Balcón de la Costa Blanca, Lomas del Golf, Eagles Nest, El Galán, Blue Hill or Mirador del Mediterráneo. A good share of its residents live there, many of them foreigners.

Inland urbanisations: a different kind of risk

On the coast, the problem is the complex that empties in winter. On the San Miguel urbanisations it is different. Plots are further apart, there are streets with very little traffic during the week and, when a house is left empty, there is nobody next door to see it.

What we find most:

In Blue Lagoon and the nearby urbanisations there are many houses of this kind, some lived in all year and others by the season.

The village centre

In the centre of San Miguel there are village houses and flats, with windows onto the street and neighbours around. There are fewer cases there, but they exist: ground floor homes with windows onto a back patio, or houses left shut when their owners go away for a spell.

What we do

The weak point of a roller shutter is the bottom slat, the one that can be gripped from outside to lift or bend it. Under that slat we glue and screw a T-shaped steel profile of 4 mm, which because of its shape does not bend in any direction. At both ends we fit bolts that slot into the wall. That is how we reinforce roller shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent. You will find it explained in roller shutter security.

If you spend part of the year away

If your San Miguel house is left empty for weeks or months, reinforcing the ground floor shutters is one of the first things worth doing, along with checking the back door. You will find more ideas on the second homes page.
