Door opening in San Miguel de Salinas

San Miguel de Salinas is an inland town about twelve kilometres from Torrevieja, with just over 7,000 residents, more than half of them foreign nationals. Most do not live in the village centre but in urbanisations such as Blue Lagoon, Las Filipinas, Aldea del Monte or Balcón de la Costa Blanca. We open doors in the village and in all of them.

Locked out on an inland urbanisation

On these urbanisations the houses are further apart than on the coast and some streets see very little traffic during the week. That changes things when you are locked out: it is less likely that a neighbour has a spare key or can lend a hand, and your family may well be in another country. So it is worth knowing what to do:

• Do not try to get in through a window or via the upstairs terrace. At a house on its own, nobody sees a fall.
• Do not force the door with a card or a screwdriver: it damages the frame and makes the opening harder afterwards.

Dust, sun and stubborn locks

Here the enemy is not so much salt as dust from the countryside and strong sun. Doors that get direct afternoon sun expand, rub against the frame and put pressure on the bolt. The key turns, but the door will not come free. Other times the cylinder, after weeks without use, has filled up with dust and the key will not go all the way in. We look at it on site and, if any part has to be sacrificed, we tell you beforehand.

Villas with several doors

Many houses in San Miguel have a gate, a front door, a terrace and a garage. Sometimes the answer is to open the simplest door and then the rest from inside. Tell us what your house is like and we will tell you the most sensible option.

In the village

In the centre there are village houses and flats belonging to long-standing residents, with wooden doors and the odd old lock. There the openings are the same as in any village: a forgotten key, a door pulled shut, a worn lock.

Before we open
