Lock replacement in San Miguel de Salinas

Villas with a gate, front door, terrace and storage room, and long-standing village houses: we replace the lock when it no longer locks as it should.

San Miguel de Salinas has just over 7,000 inhabitants according to the INE, and more than half are foreign nationals. Many live on urbanisations where houses are bought and sold frequently. Every sale leaves loose keys behind, and in a house with four or five outside doors that is a lot of keys. We are about twelve kilometres away, in Torrevieja, and we work in the village and on all its urbanisations.

After buying on an urbanisation

The keys you are handed when you sign are not all the ones that exist. Copies may still be held by the previous owner, a tenant, the estate agency or whoever looked after the house. In a San Miguel villa it is normal to have a gate, a front door, a terrace door and sometimes a storage room door.

We advise this order:

  1. The front door: if the lock is in good condition, the cylinder is changed; if it has play in it or the bolts do not come all the way out, the whole lock.
  2. The back or kitchen door, which sometimes closes with just a latch.
  3. The other outside doors, depending on their condition.

If the back door falls short, it can also be fitted with a security deadbolt.

If rather than buying you let your house to others, the same applies between one tenant and the next.

Sun and dust, more than salt

San Miguel is inland and on high ground, so salt matters less here than at the beach. What punishes locks is direct sun on outside doors and dust from the countryside. The door expands, rubs, and the lock works under strain; dust gets into the mechanism and stiffens it. If you have to push the door for the bolts to go in or the key only turns halfway, read what we explain in jammed lock before forcing it.

Very often adjusting the door is enough. When the lock case is already damaged, it needs replacing.

Village houses

In the village there are traditional houses and flats with locks that are many years old. Some are the old big-key kind, which are worth modernising. We look for a lock that fits the cut-out the door already has, so no building work is needed.
