San Miguel de Salinas is an inland town surrounded by urbanisations, with a long list that runs from Blue Lagoon to Las Filipinas, Lomas del Golf, Eagles Nest, El Galán or Mirador del Mediterráneo. Many of its residents are foreigners who live here all year round or for long spells. We are locksmiths from Torrevieja, about twelve kilometres away, and we change lock cylinders in the village and on every urbanisation.
After the purchase
On the San Miguel urbanisations there is a lot of resale buying and selling, and many houses have had several owners before you. You are handed a set of keys, but there may be copies held by the previous owner, the estate agency, whoever looked after the house or whoever let it. Changing the cylinder as soon as you move in is the most reassuring option. If you find it hard to explain in Spanish, message us on WhatsApp in your language. There are more ideas for people coming from abroad on the foreign residents page.
Cylinder and escutcheon for a house left empty
On an inland urbanisation, with separate plots and little passing traffic, a house shut for a few weeks has nobody around to keep an eye on it. For the front door we recommend:
- A security cylinder, which stands up better to methods of opening without a key.
- Fitted flush, without sticking out of the door, so it cannot be gripped and snapped.
- With a protective escutcheon in front, which covers the cylinder and leaves only the keyhole showing. We explain this in escutcheon installation.
You do not need the same on every door. The garage or an outbuilding can have a standard cylinder, and if you like, all on the same key.
Direct sun and dust from the countryside
In San Miguel outside doors get a lot of sun and dust from the countryside gets into the cylinder. A key that goes in with difficulty, does not reach the end or has to be wiggled to turn is asking to be cleaned or changed. If you leave it, one day when you least expect it, it will stay stuck inside.
The village centre
In the village houses in the centre there are heavily used cylinders and the odd big-key lock with no cylinder. In that case the lock has to be converted to a euro cylinder before the keys can be changed.
How we do it
Send us a photo of the cylinder from outside and another of the edge of the door. We give you a fixed quote, with the cylinder included. At your door we check the exact size before fitting the new one, test every lock and hand you the keys. If the size or the job changes, we tell you before carrying on. We never change the cylinder on a tenant who is still living in the home. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash.
