Benijófar is one of the smallest municipalities in the Vega Baja by area: just over four square kilometres on the right bank of the river Segura. It borders Rojales, Formentera del Segura, Algorfa and Los Montesinos, and lies close to the A-37 dual carriageway and the coastal towns. From Torrevieja it is about fifteen kilometres.
A farming village with neighbours from many countries
Benijófar has always been built on market gardening, with vegetables and fruit trees watered from the Segura. The INE gives it around 3,700 inhabitants and, according to 2022 data, half of those registered were foreign nationals. It is a town where long-standing locals and European residents who have chosen to live here, close to Ciudad Quesada and the beach, cross paths every day.

What houses there are in Benijófar
Because the municipality is so small, the old centre and the newer areas are very close together:
- In the centre, one and two-storey village houses, many with a wooden door onto the street and locks that have seen a good few years.
- Flats in small buildings, with a shared entrance.
- In the newer areas, townhouses, bungalows and villas with a plot, a garden, railings and terrace doors.
What we are asked for most in Benijófar
Modernising old locks
In the village houses there are still old-style big-key locks. They work, but they are easy to open and the keys are hard to replace. The usual solution is to change them for a lock with a European-profile cylinder, using the existing recess in the door wherever possible. We explain it under converting a lever lock to a cylinder lock.
A new lock cylinder when you arrive
If you have just bought or rented in Benijófar, think of everyone who may have had a key before you. Changing the lock cylinder in Benijófar is the simplest way to start off with peace of mind, and if you have several doors you can ask for them all to open with the same key.
Ground floor shutters
Townhouses and villas with their shutters at garden height, especially when their owners spend a few weeks away. With shutter reinforcement in Benijófar we reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent: a steel T-profile under the bottom slat and bolts at each end that lock into the wall.
Door opening
You leave the keys inside, the door slams shut in the draught or the key snaps in the lock. We open without causing damage when the lock allows it. More details under door opening in Benijófar.
River damp and wooden doors
Benijófar sits right in the fertile plain, very close to the Segura. The wooden doors of the older houses feel the changes in humidity and temperature: they swell in winter, shrink in summer and end up rubbing or knocking the latch out of line. Often nothing needs replacing; it is enough to adjust the door and the lock so they close properly again.
How we work
First we give you a fixed quote. The quickest way is to send us a photo on WhatsApp of the door, the lock or the shutter. If, when we arrive, we see the job is different, we explain it to you and do not carry on until you are happy. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. And before opening a door, we check that the person asking has the right to enter, even in a small town where everybody knows everybody.
