Formentera del Segura is a town in the Vega Baja on the left bank of the river, directly opposite Benijófar, with which it shares an old mill and a waterwheel. Its municipal area includes the village of Los Palacios. It is small in area, little more than four square kilometres, but very densely populated for its size: the INE gives it close to 4,900 inhabitants. It borders Benijófar, Rojales, Almoradí, Daya Nueva, Daya Vieja and San Fulgencio, and is about ten kilometres from Guardamar del Segura. From Torrevieja it is about eighteen kilometres.
A farming town with neighbours from here and abroad
The economy of Formentera has always revolved around the farmland of the Segura, and it also has a tradition of beekeeping and honey. In 2022, according to the INE, around four out of ten residents were foreign nationals. It is a town where life goes on all year round, not by the season, and that shows in the kind of work we do.
If you would rather explain the problem to us in your own language, write to us on WhatsApp in whichever one you like.
What the homes are like in Formentera
- One and two-storey village houses in the town, many with a wooden door and locks that have been in place for decades.
- Flats in low-rise buildings, with a shared entrance.
- Townhouses and newer homes in the areas where the town has been growing.
- Farmhouses out in the fields, more isolated, with a large gate or a storehouse door.
Because it is a compact town that is very much lived in, what we see most is wear: lock cylinders that have worked loose, keys that no longer go in smoothly and locks that stick.
What we are asked for most in Formentera del Segura
Lock cylinder replacement because of wear or lost keys
When you lose your keys or someone who should no longer have them has taken them, the first step is lock cylinder replacement. It is quick if the door is in good order and leaves your home locked with new keys the same day.
Old locks on village houses
Many houses still have big-key locks fitted. They can be replaced with a lock that takes a European-profile cylinder, which is more secure and has keys that are easy to replace, usually without changing the door. If the whole lock is worn, we also carry out full lock replacement.
Ground floor shutters
In ground floor flats and houses that open straight onto the street, the shutter is the weak point. With shutter reinforcement we reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent, with a steel T-profile underneath the bottom slat and bolts that lock into the wall. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether yours can be reinforced.
Door opening
The door slams shut, the key is left inside or snaps in the lock. We open without causing damage whenever the lock allows it and, if not, we explain it to you before doing anything. You will find more information under door opening.
Farmhouses and storehouses
Houses and storehouses out in the countryside have a different set of problems: they are more isolated, often with sheet metal gates or large wooden doors, and days go by without anyone passing. In these cases, security bolts can be fitted, padlocks swapped for better locks or doors reinforced. Tell us what you have and we will tell you what makes sense to do.
How we work
Before we start, we give you a fixed quote; the quickest way is to send a photo on WhatsApp. If the job turns out to be different when we arrive, we let you know and do not carry on without your agreement. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. And before opening a door, we check that the person asking has the right to enter.
