Los Montesinos is a small inland municipality in the Vega Baja, about twelve kilometres from Torrevieja. In the 2021 census it had just over 5,100 inhabitants. It borders San Miguel de Salinas, Benijófar, Algorfa and Almoradí, and it has no coastline, although the beach is only a short drive away.
Town and urbanisations
The residents of Los Montesinos are spread across three kinds of place: the town centre, the traditional neighbourhoods around it and the nearby urbanisations of La Herrada and Montesol. The growth of La Herrada brought many new residents, above all British, who settled here, and the town council itself notes that, among EU foreign nationals, the largest group is from the United Kingdom.
That is why we look after you on WhatsApp in your own language: if you find it easier to explain the problem in English or any other language, write to us that way.
What the homes are like
In the town there are one and two-storey village houses and some flats, many with a wooden door onto the street. These are homes of local families, lived in all year round, where what we see most are worn locks and lock cylinders that need replacing.
In La Herrada and Montesol, urbanisation homes predominate: villas with a plot, townhouses and bungalows, with railings, a garden, a terrace door and, in many cases, ground floor shutters. Some houses are lived in all year; others are left shut when their owners go back to their home country for a few weeks.
What we are asked for most in Los Montesinos
In the town
- Replacing worn lock cylinders or those on doors whose keys have gone astray over the years.
- Replacing old big-key locks with locks that take a European-profile cylinder. We tell you about it under converting a lever lock to a cylinder lock.
- Adjusting wooden doors that rub or will not close because of the heat and humidity.
On the urbanisations
- Lock cylinder replacement in Los Montesinos when you buy a home or when you do not know who has a copy of the key.
- Shutter reinforcement in Los Montesinos for single-storey houses. We reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent: a steel T-profile underneath the bottom slat and bolts at each end that lock into the wall.
- Door opening when the door slams shut as you step out into the garden or you leave your keys inside. More information under door opening in Los Montesinos.
- Aluminium or PVC terrace doors with failing locks.
The house that is left on its own
On inland urbanisations such as La Herrada, when a house is left empty there is not much activity around it. If you are going away for a while, check before you lock up:
- That the main door locks with every turn and the lock cylinder has no play.
- That the back door or the kitchen door is not left on just a latch.
- That the ground floor shutters cannot be lifted from outside.
- That nobody who should no longer have one has a key to the house.
If any of these points fails, send us a photo and we will tell you how to sort it out.
How we work
Before we start, we give you a fixed quote. The quickest way is a photo on WhatsApp of the door, the lock cylinder or the shutter. If, when we arrive, we see the job changes, we explain it to you and do not carry on until you are happy. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. Before opening any door, we check that the person asking has the right to enter, both in the town and on the urbanisation.
