Guardamar del Segura is the coastal municipality that borders Torrevieja to the north: Les Ortigues beach carries on without a break into La Mata beach. From the centre of Torrevieja it is about fifteen kilometres along the N-332, so we are there often. It has around 11 kilometres of beaches, the mouth of the Segura a couple of kilometres north of the town, and a pine forest of some 800 hectares that was planted between the late 19th century and 1929 to hold back the dunes that were advancing over the fields.
A town that multiplies in summer
According to the INE, Guardamar has around 18,500 residents, and in 2022 slightly fewer than a third were foreign nationals. But what stands out most is the summer: many families who holiday here arrive from other parts of Spain and from Europe, and the town changes completely. There are flats and apartments that are opened up in July and August and stay shut for the rest of the year.
If the owners or tenants do not speak Spanish, they can write to us on WhatsApp in their own language.
What kind of homes there are in Guardamar
- Flats and apartments in the town and near the beach, many in buildings with a shared entrance, a lift and a garage.
- Holiday homes passed down from one generation to the next within the same family, with locks that have been in place for decades.
- Urbanisations of bungalows, townhouses and villas, such as El Raso, with communal areas and an entrance gate.
- Traditional village houses and homes in the old part of town, with wooden doors and old locks.
Typical problems we see here
Salt and sand
In Guardamar, between the sea and the pine forest, sand and salt get into everything. The lock cylinders on doors facing the beach or the terrace get dirty and the key starts to feel stiff. If it is not cleaned or replaced in time, it ends up snapping inside or not turning. Broken key extraction is one of the most common jobs at the start of summer.
Inherited keys and copies nobody keeps track of
In family holiday homes it is normal for keys to be shared out among brothers and sisters, cousins and neighbours. Nobody knows any more how many copies exist. If that is your case, the most reassuring thing is to change the lock cylinder in Guardamar and hand the new keys only to those who really need them.
Shutters down all winter
Ground floor flats and bungalows that spend September to June with the shutter closed are what worry their owners most. With shutter reinforcement in Guardamar we reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent: a steel T-profile under the bottom slat and bolts at each end that lock into the wall. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether yours can be reinforced.
Doors that slam shut
In summer, with the windows open and the sea breeze, doors close on their own. If you are locked out with the keys inside, we open without causing damage whenever the lock allows it. It is all explained under door opening in Guardamar.
Before you shut up the house
If your home in Guardamar is left empty after the summer, we recommend checking it before you leave: that the front door locks with every turn, that the terrace door closes properly and that the ground floor shutters are protected. It is much easier to do it calmly in September than in a rush in July.
How we work in Guardamar
We give you a fixed quote before we start, and the quickest way is to send a photo on WhatsApp. If the job changes when we arrive, we let you know and do not carry on until you are happy. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. Before opening any door, we check that the person asking has the right to enter, even in the middle of August with the family waiting in the street.
