In Los Montesinos, about twelve kilometres from Torrevieja, cylinder work varies a lot from one street to the next. In the village we see the wear of houses lived in all year by local families. In La Herrada and Montesol, the comings and goings typical of an urbanisation: buying and selling, lettings and owners who spend spells away. We are locksmiths from Torrevieja and we work throughout the municipality.
Village houses: from the worn cylinder to the old lock
In village houses it is very common to find cylinders that have been in place for decades. The key no longer goes in smoothly, you have to find the right spot, or it has lost its teeth from so much use. Changing the cylinder when it starts giving warnings saves you a key snapped inside.
Other doors in the centre have no cylinder but a lever lock, the one with a long key and a bit at the end. Their keys cannot be changed without changing the lock. The usual answer is to convert it to a lock with a euro cylinder, using the existing cut-out in the door whenever possible. We explain this in converting a lever lock to a cylinder.
La Herrada and Montesol: houses that change hands
The Los Montesinos urbanisations attracted many new residents, above all British, and still see plenty of resale buying and selling. If you have just bought, think of everyone who has had a key before you. Changing the cylinder on day one is the simplest way to start with peace of mind.
If your house has a gate, a front door, a terrace and a garage, we can fit cylinders that all open with the same key.
The key you leave with the neighbour
When you go back to your own country for a few weeks, it is normal to leave a copy with a neighbour or with whoever looks after the house. Over time those copies multiply: the person who waters the plants, the one who cleans the pool, the relative who came to stay. If you no longer know how many there are, changing the cylinder when you get back resets the count to zero. You will find more ideas for people who leave the house shut up in second homes.
If the house has been let, the change is made once the tenant has handed it back; never on a tenant who is still living there.
Which cylinder to fit
- On the front door of a house left empty, a security cylinder fitted flush, without sticking out.
- On a village house door with lots of daily use, a quality cylinder that can take the wear.
- On the garage door or an outbuilding, a standard one may be enough.
How we do it
With a photo of the cylinder from outside and another of the edge of the door we give you a fixed quote, with the cylinder included. At your house we check the exact size before fitting it. If the job changes once we see it, we tell you before carrying on. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash, and you can message us on WhatsApp in your language.
