Can the cylinder on an aluminium door be changed?

Yes. Most aluminium and uPVC doors have a European profile cylinder, just like a wooden door, and it is changed without any problem.

The difference is the size. As the profile of these doors is narrow, their cylinders are usually short, and sometimes offset, with one side longer than the other. It has to be measured carefully so it does not stick out, because on an aluminium door a protruding cylinder is even easier to attack.

You can also take the chance to fit one with more protection. And if the door opens onto a terrace or a garden, it should stand up well to damp and salt air.

Send us a photo of the edge of the door, showing the cylinder screw, and we will tell you what size it takes. More in cylinder replacement.
