How does the steel T-profile work?

The T-profile is a 4 mm T-shaped steel piece that is glued and screwed underneath the bottom slat of the shutter. Joined to the slat, it gives it the rigidity it lacks.

The key is the shape. A flat piece can be bent; a T, because of its shape, does not bend to either side. So, with the T joined to it, the bottom slat can no longer bend in the middle.

The profile works together with the bolts at the ends, which slot into the wall. The T stops the slat bending; the bolts stop it being lifted.

It is explained piece by piece in how the T-profile reinforcement works and in shutter security.

How do burglars lift a shutter to break in?

They attack the bottom slat, the only one that can be gripped from outside: either they lever it from below to lift it, or push it in the middle until it bends. Read the full answer

What are the bolts that slot into the wall for?

They anchor the bottom slat to the wall at both ends. With the shutter down and the bolts slotted in, there is nowhere to lift it from outside. Read the full answer
