A keyed alike cylinder, “cilindro igualado” in Spanish, shares its combination with others, so that a single key opens them all. If you key alike the front door, the patio door and the storeroom, you carry one key instead of three.

It should not be confused with a master keyed cylinder. With keyed alike cylinders all the keys are the same and open the same doors; in a master key system each person has their own key and there is also a master key.

It is very practical in homes with several entrances, such as bungalows and townhouses on the coast with a front door, a garden door and a gate, or in business premises with a front and a back door.

It can be done with cylinders keyed alike at the factory or by rebuilding the ones you have so that they open with the same key, if the model allows it. Bear in mind that, if you lose the key, it is best to change them all.

We explain it under keying cylinders alike.
