Lock manipulation techniques, “manipulación” in Spanish, are the set of techniques that open a lock by working on its mechanism without breaking it or using the original key. They include lock picking, raking, bumping, impressioning and decoding, among others.

What they have in common is that they leave few signs. That has practical consequences: after a burglary with no visible damage, the insurer may raise objections, which is why a professional is sometimes asked to inspect the cylinder and put on record what they find.

Some signs can point to manipulation: fine scratches at the mouth of the keyway, metal filings, a key that suddenly goes in or turns differently, or a cylinder that has come loose.

Prevention means a cylinder protected against these techniques, correctly sized and with an escutcheon. We help you with our security cylinders and, if it has already happened, with a forced lock report.
