The locksmith’s toolkit is the set of tools a locksmith carries on every call out, organised so that whatever is needed is to hand without going back to the workshop. There is no fixed model: each professional puts it together to suit their work.
It usually includes tools for non-destructive entry, extractors for snapped keys, an endoscope, measuring instruments such as the vernier calliper, screwdrivers and spanners of every kind, files and punches, a drill with locksmith’s drill bits and lubricants suitable for locks. The van also usually carries lock cylinders in the most common sizes, so that any that need replacing can be changed on the spot.
What you cannot see in the toolkit counts as much as what is inside it: the experience to choose the least damaging approach and the good sense to check first that the person asking for the door to be opened has the right to go in. That is how we work on door opening.
