Master keying

Master keying is the technique of setting up several cylinders so that each one has its own key and, at the same time, can be opened by higher level keys that group doors together.

That way, a resident opens their own home and the communal areas, the gardener only the tool store and the community president the whole complex. Each person carries a single key and that key opens exactly what it should.

It is widely used in communities of owners, offices, shops and rental properties. On the developments along the coast, with an entrance hall, pool, storerooms and garage, it brings order to a bunch of keys that would otherwise grow out of control.

A tip: before master keying, make a list of the doors and of who needs to open each one. With that, the plan can be drawn up and you avoid having to redo it. We explain it step by step on our master keying page.
