Raking is a way of opening a lock with a pick in which, instead of working the pins one by one, a rake is used to move several at once while a tensioner keeps up the turning pressure. It is quicker and less precise than single pin picking.
How well it works depends almost entirely on the cylinder. With simple cylinders, standard pins and plenty of play it can work; with security cylinders, the special pins catch in false positions and the narrow profile leaves no room to manoeuvre.
As it leaves few marks, it sometimes goes undetected. If after a long absence you notice the lock feels different, or something is missing with no signs on the door, have the cylinder checked.
Prevention means choosing a good cylinder and fitting it at the right size. We help you with our security cylinders.
