Cylinder pulling, also called cylinder extraction, is an attack that rips the cylinder out of the door by force so that the lock mechanism can then be operated through the hole left behind. It is a destructive method and leaves clear traces: the cylinder broken or missing and the escutcheon marked.

It works on cylinders with no reinforcement and, above all, when they stick out beyond the escutcheon or plate, because they give something to grip.

Prevention combines three things: an anti-pull cylinder, with internal steel bars; that cylinder being the right size, not sticking out; and a security escutcheon that protects the cylinder.

If you find your cylinder has been ripped out, do not touch anything and call the Police before any repair, so that there is a record. After that you will need an urgent replacement and, if your insurer asks for one, a forced lock report. To prevent it, take a look at our security cylinders.
