Authorised locksmith is what some manufacturers or suppliers call the tradespeople they have accredited to fit or maintain certain products, such as particular ranges of lock cylinders or doors, with access to their parts and their key systems.

It is also used in a general sense, to talk about a locksmith who is properly registered and issues invoices. That is why the word does not mean the same thing in every case.

If someone introduces themselves as authorised, ask by whom and for which products. What really protects you is being given a fixed quote before work starts and an invoice with the materials itemised. If you manage a community of owners or several properties, a regular locksmith you can rely on is worth having, as with lock maintenance.
