Cylinder size, “medida del bombín” in Spanish, is the length of each side of the cylinder, measured from the centre of the fixing screw to each end. It is given as two figures in millimetres, first one side and then the other, for example 30x30 or 30x40.
The most reliable way is to take the cylinder out and measure it, but if you have no experience, send us a photo with a tape measure next to it and we will tell you what size you need.
Why it matters so much:
- If it is too short, it sits recessed or does not line up properly with the escutcheon.
- If it is too long, it sticks out on the outside and makes breaking and pulling easier.
- Ideally it should sit flush with the outer escutcheon, or protrude only minimally.
Many doors have an offset cylinder because the outer escutcheon is thicker than the inner one. We sort it out with our cylinder replacement service.
