A floor lock is one that secures the door by driving its bolt into the floor, into a strike plate set into the ground, instead of into the side of the frame. It is fitted at the bottom of the door leaf or set into the floor itself.

It is common on glass shop doors, swing doors and roller shutters, where there is no solid side frame or where you want to lock the bottom so nobody can lift or push the door.

The part that fails most is the hole in the floor: it fills up with sand, water or dirt and the bolt no longer goes all the way in. In premises on the coast it is worth cleaning it often. More under lock installation and locks for roller shutters.
