Liability insurance (seguro de responsabilidad civil) is the insurance that covers the damage the insured person causes to other people or their property, within the limits and with the exclusions set by their policy.
There are two situations involving a lock that may affect you. On the one hand, the professional’s liability insurance, which comes into play if damage is caused to a third party during a job. On the other, the liability cover included in many home or community policies, for example if a door or a grille at your home causes damage to a neighbour.
Exactly what each policy covers depends on the contract, not on its name. If you are unsure, ask your insurer or your broker for the terms and conditions and read them before anything happens.
If damage to your door or your lock ends in a claim, a written report helps. See forced lock report.
