Lock pick set

A lock pick set is a collection of fine steel tools with differently shaped tips, together with one or more tension wrenches. It is the classic tool for precision opening: with it the locksmith works on the pins of the lock cylinder without breaking it.

In the hands of a professional it is used to open a door without damage when someone has been locked out of their own home, or to inspect a cylinder. It has its limits: security cylinders are designed to resist this kind of manipulation, with special pins and control parts, and on them the pick may not be the way in.
