A locksmith’s drill bit is made of very hard metal, designed to drill through hardened steel, lock cylinders and lock parts that an ordinary bit cannot bite into. It is used in destructive entry, when the cylinder is broken or jammed and there is no other way of opening it, and also when fitting or reinforcing locks on metal doors.
That is why security cylinders have anti-drill protection: hardened steel parts placed exactly where the bit would go, which stop it or break it. A cylinder like that is much harder to drill, which is exactly what you want if somebody tries it on your door.
Drilling a cylinder always means replacing it afterwards. If it has to be done, we tell you beforehand and fit the new one on the spot. The models we fit are on our security cylinders page.
