The best thing is not to have to choose: a good security cylinder combines all three protections. If you have to prioritise, it depends on your door.
Each one protects against something different:
- Anti-snap. Against snapping or pulling out the cylinder. It comes first if the cylinder sticks out of the door and has no escutcheon.
- Anti-bump. Against opening with a doctored key and taps, which leaves hardly any marks.
- Anti-pick. Against manipulating the parts one by one, which is slower.
In many homes on the coast we see basic cylinders sticking out of the door, often in bungalows and ground floor flats. That is where anti-snap and an escutcheon make the difference.
If you send us a photo of your cylinder and the edge of the door, we will tell you what suits you. It is explained in security cylinders.
