An anti-pick cylinder is a cylinder made so that it is very hard to open with lock picks, the slim tools used to try to move the pins without the key.

It achieves this in several ways: security pins with special shapes, such as mushroom or spool pins, which catch when someone manipulates them; a greater number of pins; very tight tolerances between parts; and complicated key profiles that leave little room for a tool.

No cylinder is impossible to open, but a good one makes the attempt take so long that most people give up. That is why it is worth checking that the manufacturer states resistance to picking on the technical sheet, together with the test that backs it up.

In second homes that stand empty for months, as so many do in Torrevieja, this resistance matters more, because nobody will hear someone who takes their time. Ask us about the right security cylinders for your door.

Which protection is best: anti-bump, anti-pick or anti-snap?
