The safest option is to have a protected key cylinder, whose copies can only be made by showing the ownership card, and to keep count of who has each key.
Also:
- Hand over the keys without a key ring showing the address or the name of the urbanisation.
- If it is a management company, ask how they store the keys and who has access to them.
- Do not leave the key hidden in a plant pot, in the meter box or under the doormat. That is the first place anyone looks.
- When you change neighbour or company, rekey or change the cylinder.
If several people need to get in, for example cleaners, pool maintenance and a relative, a master key system lets each of them open only what they need.
We explain the protected key models in security cylinders.
