An emergency function cylinder, “bombín de emergencia” in Spanish, is one that lets you open the door from one side even when a key is left in on the other. Many manufacturers and locksmiths use this name and double clutch for the same function, so when you see it in a catalogue, what matters is checking that the sheet says it works with a key in on both sides.
It makes most sense on the front door of homes where an elderly person lives alone, in flats with children and in holiday rental apartments, where guests often leave the key in on the inside.
What it does not do: it does not open without a key and it does not replace a security cylinder. It is a convenience feature. If you also want protection against bumping, breaking or pulling, ask for it in the same cylinder.
We advise you on cylinder replacement with a fixed quote before we start.
