Emergency opening

An emergency opening is the opening of a door, a lock or a shutter that has to be done there and then, because someone is locked out, there is someone inside who cannot open it or business premises cannot be locked.

Whenever possible the door is opened without damage, so it can still be used. If the lock is jammed or broken, sometimes the lock cylinder has to be sacrificed and replaced afterwards. If the door was only pulled shut, the opening is usually simpler.
