A hinged shutter is an outer leaf that opens on hinges in front of the window to give shade, keep the heat out and close up the opening. Unlike a roller shutter, it does not go up: it opens sideways like a door.
There are solid ones and ones with fixed or adjustable louvres, such as the mallorquinas. They are seen mainly on older houses, farmhouses and homes built in the traditional style.
Their security depends on the fastening that locks them from inside and on the condition of the hinges. On the coast, salt air rusts fittings and bolts, and a badly fastened hinged shutter opens with little effort. If what you have is roller shutters on a ground floor, take a look at shutter security.
