The shutter stop is the part fitted to the bottom slat that hits the mouth of the shutter box as the shutter goes up and stops it from disappearing completely inside. There are usually two, one on each side.

They may be plastic, rubber or metal, screwed or clipped onto the slat. With sun and use, the plastic ones snap.

If a stop is missing or broken, when the shutter is raised hard the bottom slat can slip into the box and stay there, and then there is no strap or slat left to pull on. To get it out, the access panel has to be opened. If this has happened to you, take a look at shutter repair. And if you also want that slat to be strong, there is shutter security.
