UNE-EN 1303 is the European standard, adopted in Spain by UNE, that sets out the requirements and test methods for lock cylinders, what people in Spain call “bombines”. In the UK the same European standard is published as BS EN 1303.

It classifies each cylinder with a code of several digits in which each position describes a characteristic: among others, category of use, durability, suitability for fire doors, corrosion resistance, key security and attack resistance. The last two are the ones that matter most to you, to know how well it protects against manipulation and force.

It helps you compare cylinders on data rather than trade names. A reputable manufacturer states on the technical sheet or the packaging that the cylinder complies with this standard, together with its classification code.

You do not need to know what every digit means by heart; what matters is that the code exists and that someone explains it to you. If you are torn between models, we help you with our security cylinders.
