UNE-EN 12209 is the European standard, adopted in Spain by UNE, that sets out the requirements and test methods for mechanically operated locks and latches and their strike plates, the part on the frame where they engage. In the UK it is published as BS EN 12209.
Like the cylinder standard, it classifies each lock with a code of several digits. Among other things it covers category of use, durability, corrosion resistance and security, including drill resistance. That way you can tell a lock designed for an interior door from one made for an entrance that has to withstand heavy use and a burglary attempt.
This standard does not classify the cylinder, which has its own, UNE-EN 1303. A good door needs both parts to be up to the job.
When you change a lock, ask for the sheet and check that it quotes this standard with its code. We advise you on lock installation and security cylinders.
