What is a community master key?

A community master key is a key that opens all the communal doors of the property, such as the entrance, the pool, the meter room or the garage, while each resident’s own key opens only what they are entitled to.

It is achieved with a master key system: the cylinders are made to a combination so they accept two keys, the user’s and the master. A resident’s key can open the entrance and the pool, but not the meter room; the master opens everything.

It is very handy for the caretaker, the gardener or the property manager, who no longer have to carry a bunch of keys. And in an emergency, whoever has the master can open any communal area.

The important thing is to control who has that key, because it opens a lot. Ideally it should be part of a protected system that cannot be copied without authorisation. We look at it in master key systems.
