As the entrance belongs to everyone, the change is normally decided by the community through its usual channels. To find out what decision is needed in your case, check with your property manager.
In practice we see two situations:
- An urgent repair, such as an entrance that will not shut or a broken lock, is usually ordered by the president or the property manager so the building is not left open.
- A change of system, such as moving to a protected key or a master key system, affects how every resident gets in and is best taken to the owners’ meeting.
There is another practical point: when the cylinder is changed, new keys have to be handed out to everyone. It helps to know how many homes there are, whether there are tenants and how the keys will be delivered.
We work on the instructions of whoever represents the community and give them a fixed quote. More information in communities of owners.
