Yes. Many house doors can be reinforced quite a lot without replacing them, as long as the leaf and the frame are in good condition.
The most common reinforcements, from simplest to most complete:
- A security cylinder of exactly the right size.
- A security escutcheon to protect it on the outside.
- A security deadbolt above the lock, as a second lock.
- Anti-jemmy hinges to protect the other side.
- A reinforced strike plate, with long screws that reach into the wall.
There is a limit: if the door is very thin or hollow wood, reinforcements help, but the leaf itself is still weak. In that case it is worth considering another door.
We look at it with you at the door and tell you what is worthwhile. It is all in door reinforcement.
