What do I do if I arrive and find my lock has been changed?

Do not try to get in on your own or force the door. The first step is to call the police and, after that, to seek legal advice on how to proceed.

If the lock is different, there may be someone inside. Confronting them or breaking the door down could put you at risk and make your situation more complicated. In the meantime:

The explanation may be simpler, such as a property manager or a relative who changed the cylinder without telling you, but until you have checked, it is better not to act alone.

We do not open or change locks on a property that is occupied. Once you recover possession, we change the lock and reinforce the house. We cover it in protection against squatters.
