Anti-squatter lock (in Spanish, cerradura antiocupas) is the trade name given to high security locks, cylinders or locking sets designed for homes that stand empty for periods of time.
It is not a type of lock defined by any standard. Very different products can lie behind the name, so it is worth looking at what matters: that the cylinder resists the usual opening techniques and snapping, that it has an escutcheon to protect it, that the door has a second locking point and that the keys are copy controlled.
No lock makes a house impossible to open. What it achieves is making it difficult, slow and noisy to open, so that your home is not the easiest one in the street. In bungalows and ground floor flats, moreover, the way in is often through the roller shutters.
We explain which measures make sense on our protection against squatters page.
