The level of protection, “nivel de protección” in Spanish, is the degree of defence a door offers against an attempted break-in, and it depends on everything together: cylinder, lock, escutcheon, leaf, frame and hinges. Each part may have its own classification under its own standard, but in practice the weakest link is what counts.
A common example: a high security cylinder fitted with a decorative escutcheon, on a door with a single locking point and exposed hinges. On paper the cylinder is good; in reality, the door gives way somewhere else.
To assess your door, check:
- Whether the cylinder is a security one and does not stick out.
- Whether the escutcheon protects the cylinder.
- Whether the lock secures at several points.
- Whether the hinges and frame stand up to levering.
In second homes that are shut up for months it is worth raising it. We look into it with you as part of our security upgrade and our security cylinders.
