A sectional door is a garage door made of several horizontal panels joined together by hinges. When it opens, the panels travel up side tracks and fold round until they sit under the ceiling, without swinging outwards or taking up space in front.

That is its big difference from an up-and-over door, which swings up in a single piece and needs room in front to lift. A sectional door usually has torsion springs on a shaft above the opening to balance the weight, and it is almost always motorised.

If it gets stuck during a power cut, many have a manual release. Fitting these doors, and their springs and motor, is not something we do: that is a job for a garage door technician. What we do is open garages and storerooms when the problem is the lock or the key, as you can see in garage and storeroom opening.
