It is a security deadbolt fitted on the inner face of the door, usually above the main lock, as a second lock. It takes its name from a very widespread brand, although other manufacturers make similar deadbolts.
It has a thick bolt that goes into a steel keep screwed to the frame. It is opened with a key from outside and with a key or a knob from inside. With two separate locking points, the door stands up much better to levering.
It is one of the most common reinforcements in flats and bungalows, because it is fitted without changing the door or the lock. What matters is that the keep is firmly fixed to the frame and that its cylinder is also a security one.
It is explained in security deadbolts.
