A sliding door is one that opens by sliding sideways along a track or guide, instead of swinging on hinges. It takes up very little space when open, which is why it is used for plot gates, communal garage entrances, warehouses and shops, and also on terraces and inside homes.

Large outdoor ones run on wheels in a floor track and many are motorised. Manual ones lock with hook locks: instead of a straight bolt, a hook comes out and grips the frame, stopping the leaf from sliding.

On the coast, the track collects sand and salt and the door ends up dragging. Keeping it clean helps avoid straining the lock. We do not fit or repair gate motors or garage doors; we do work on manual locking systems, as you can see in roller shutter repair.
