The roller shutter is the front door of your business. When it fails, the problem is not just security: if it will not go up, you cannot open; if it will not come down, you cannot leave. That is why it pays to repair it properly and in good time, before a little play ends up as a bent slat or an axle that will not turn.
We are locksmiths from Torrevieja with 15 years of experience and we work every day with the roller shutters of shops, bars, offices and garages in the area. We are available 24 hours a day, every day.
The faults we see most often
Most of the shutters we are called out to have one of these problems:
- The shutter will not go up or takes a lot of effort. It is usually the axle spring, which has lost strength, or a dirty or bent guide that drags on the slats.
- It comes down crooked or sticks halfway. A slat has come out of the guide or the shutter has become unbalanced on one side.
- It is noisy or jerky. Lack of cleaning and greasing in the guides, or an axle bearing that is starting to fail.
- Bent or broken slats. From a knock, a forced entry attempt or because someone tried to pull it down while it was stuck.
- The lock will not open or does not engage. The bolt does not go into the floor or the guide, or the lock cylinder is seized. For this there is the page on roller shutter door locks.
If your shutter has jammed right now and you cannot open or close your premises, first have a look at what to do in shop shutter stuck.
How we work
The quickest thing is to send us a photo or a short video on WhatsApp: the whole shutter, the area where it sticks and the lock. With that we already know what type of shutter it is (slatted, mesh, or folding lattice) and which parts may be failing.
At your premises we check the whole assembly: the side guides, the condition of the slats, the axle and its springs, the stops and the lock. We do not stop at the symptom. A shutter that comes off its track again and again usually has a cause you cannot see at first glance, and if it is not corrected, the fault comes back.
Before we start we give you a fixed quote. If something different turns up when we take it apart, we show you and do not carry on until you are happy.
What we repair
- Straightening or replacing damaged slats.
- Cleaning, adjusting and greasing the guides.
- Adjusting and tensioning the axle so the shutter goes up evenly.
- Refitting slats that have come out of the guide.
- Replacing the shutter’s lock, cylinder or bolts.
- Checking after an attempted break-in, to see what has been damaged.
What we do not do
We do not work on shutter motors or control panels. If your shutter is motorised and the fault is in the motor, we will tell you when we see the photo so you do not waste time. If the problem is mechanical (a slat, a guide, the lock), we can help you even if the shutter has a motor.
Local conditions on the coast
In Torrevieja and right across the Vega Baja, salt air is enemy number one for metal roller shutters. Sea damp corrodes the guides, seizes the cylinders and stiffens the springs, especially on seafront premises or in streets that catch the easterly levante wind.
We also see many premises that stay shut for months out of season. A shutter that does not move all winter reaches spring seized up, and forcing it on the first day is the quickest way to bend a slat. If your business is seasonal, it is worth having it checked before you reopen.
Tips to make your shutter last
- Always raise and lower the shutter fully, without leaving it halfway for hours.
- Do not force it if you feel resistance: if it sticks, stop and check.
- Clean sand and dust out of the guides from time to time, especially in summer.
- Lubricate the lock with a specific product, not cooking oil or thick grease, which traps dirt.
- If you see a bent slat, have it fixed soon: a single bad slat can drag the others with it.
For businesses and residential communities
We work with shops, bars, offices, industrial units and shared garages. If you have several premises or manage a community’s roller shutters, we can check them regularly to avoid breakdowns in the middle of the season. On the page for shops and businesses there is more information on how we work with businesses.
