Catral is an inland municipality in the northern part of the Vega Baja, known as the gateway to the Vega Baja. It borders San Felipe Neri, Dolores, San Isidro, Almoradí, Callosa de Segura and Orihuela, and is close to the El Hondo nature park, a wetland with many birds, although the lagoon does not belong to its municipal area. It lies about 16 kilometres from Orihuela and, from Torrevieja, about twenty to twenty-five kilometres depending on the route.

Town, farmland and scattered houses

The INE gives it around 9,600 inhabitants. A good part of the municipality is farmland, with citrus fruit, artichokes, fruit trees and vegetables, and among the fields there are many scattered houses and rural homes. Catral also has two industrial estates, San Juan and Poniente, with companies in furniture, textiles, construction and food. In 2014 the Generalitat (the regional government) declared it a tourist municipality of the Valencian Community.

Isolated country houses

A farmhouse whose nearest neighbour is hundreds of metres away needs a door that holds out. Here, reinforcement makes the most sense: multi-point locks, security bolts, escutcheons that protect the lock cylinder and, on low windows, grilles. We cover it under security upgrades. If the house has ground floor shutters, shutter reinforcement is one of the most useful jobs: we reinforce shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent, with a steel T-profile under the bottom slat and bolts that lock into the wall.

Units and premises on the industrial estates

Lock cylinders when you buy a home

If you buy a country house or a flat in the town, change the lock cylinder on the first day. You do not know how many keys have been in circulation, and in an isolated house it matters even more.

Damp and old gates

In the farmland, near the wetland areas, wooden doors and metal gates suffer: the wood swells, the sheet metal rusts and the locks seize up.
