The first thing is not to force it shut, because that bends the hinges and damages the lock, which ends up working at an angle.
A door drops when a hinge gives way. It is usually the top one, which carries the most weight. The most common causes:
- Screws that have come loose or no longer bite because the timber of the frame is worn away.
- A hinge that has sagged or has a worn pin.
- A heavy door, such as a security door, on hinges that are not made for that weight.
If the screws are only loose, tightening them is sometimes enough. If they spin without gripping, the hole has to be filled or longer screws fitted that bite properly. If the hinge is bent, it is replaced. You can see how we work in door repair and adjustment. With a photo on WhatsApp we can tell you what it needs and give you a fixed quote.
