Algorfa has gone from a farming village to a town of urbanisations. Alongside the village centre are Lo Crispín, Castillo de Montemar, Montebello and the homes around the La Finca golf course, with many owners from Britain and the rest of Europe. Many of those houses are bought as second homes and let for part of the year. We are locksmiths from Torrevieja, about twenty kilometres away, and we change lock cylinders in the village and on all its urbanisations.
The key that has not come back
In a villa or apartment let by the season, keys come and go: the owner, the company managing the rental, the cleaners, the gardener, the pool man and every guest. Sooner or later a key does not come back. When that happens, or when you no longer know how many copies there are, the simplest thing is to change the cylinder between one stay and the next.
We always do it with the property empty. If the person inside is a tenant who is still living there, the change is not made. You will find how to go about it when tenants change in change of tenant.
Buying in La Finca, Lo Crispín or Montebello
If you have just bought a resale home, think of all the hands its keys have been through. We recommend changing the cylinder on day one. If you are an owner and do not live in Spain, message us on WhatsApp in your language and we will work out with you how to do it and who we hand the new keys to.
Which cylinder for each door
- Front door of a villa left empty: a security cylinder, fitted flush so it cannot be gripped from outside. We explain this in security cylinders.
- Aluminium or PVC terrace door: usually takes a cylinder of a different size. We can identify it from a photo.
- Garage or outbuilding: a standard cylinder may be enough.
And if you like, all on the same key, so the guest does not have to guess which one opens each door.
In the village
In the centre of Algorfa there are village houses and flats with heavily used cylinders that are starting to feel stiff or loose. If a door has a big-key lock with no cylinder, it first has to be converted to a euro cylinder; we explain this when we see the door.
How we do it
- You send us a photo of the cylinder from outside and another of the edge of the door.
- We suggest the cylinder and give you a fixed quote, with the cylinder included.
- At your door we check the exact size before fitting it.
- We test every lock and hand you the new keys.
If the size or the job changes, we tell you and do not carry on without your agreement. You can pay by card, Bizum or cash. More detail in lock cylinder replacement and in locksmith in Algorfa.
