When you buy in Torrevieja

When you sign you are handed a set of keys, but nobody can tell you how many more exist. In a town centre or Playa del Cura flat that has had several owners, or in a Los Altos bungalow that was let out for years, the sensible thing is to change the cylinder the same day you move in. Between rental seasons

Many owners in Torrevieja let their property by the season. When a key does not come back, or when you no longer know how many copies each tenant has made, changing the cylinder between one season and the next is the simplest answer. We always do it once the property has been handed back: we never change the cylinder on a tenant who is still living in the home. Salt air on the seafront

In the buildings along the promenade, in Playa de los Locos, Cabo Cervera or La Mata, the sea air reaches the doors directly. The cylinder gets dirty inside, the key goes in roughly and has to be wiggled to turn. Once it gets to that point, cleaning it sometimes helps, but very often what is needed is to change it before the key snaps inside. On urbanisations further from the coast the wear is slower, although the sand brought back from the beach plays its part too.

Flats with a shared entrance and bungalows with a terrace

• In a flat with a communal entrance, the cylinder we change is the one on your home. The ones on the street door and the gate belong to the community of owners, and they are changed when the community decides.
• In a ground floor bungalow, the front door deserves a security cylinder, especially if it is shut up for months. We explain this in security cylinders.
• On aluminium or PVC terrace doors, the cylinder is usually a different size or shape. We can identify it from a photo.

How we do it

Send us a photo on WhatsApp of the cylinder from outside and another of the edge of the door. With that we suggest a cylinder and give you a fixed quote, with the cylinder included. At your door we check the exact size before fitting the new one, so it is neither recessed nor sticking out. If the size or the job changes, we tell you before carrying on.
