San Fulgencio has two centres that have little in common. One is the village, a farming community surrounded by fields. The other is La Marina, a very large urbanisation about five and a half kilometres from the village, which began to be built in the late 1980s and takes in areas such as El Oasis, Monte Victoria and El Oral. From Torrevieja it is about twenty kilometres, depending on where you are going.
La Marina, low houses with gardens
In La Marina the typical home is a villa on its own plot, a townhouse or a bungalow, many of them single storey, with a garden, a gate and terrace doors. According to the INE, around two in every three residents of the municipality are foreign nationals, with British the most numerous. Some people live here all year and others spend spells here and go back to their own country for weeks or months.
That leaves two situations we see often:
- Single storey houses with every shutter at garden level, without a single window out of arm’s reach.
- Homes left empty while the owner is away, with the shutters down.
On such an extensive urbanisation, a closed-up house can go a long time without anyone noticing it.
The village
In the centre of San Fulgencio there are village houses and flats belonging to lifelong residents. There shutters are used every day and there is activity in the street. What is worth looking at are ground floor homes with a window onto a back patio and houses that spend time shut up.
The system
A roller shutter is almost always attacked by the bottom slat, which is the one that can be gripped from outside. Under it we glue and screw a T-shaped steel profile of 4 mm. A T does not bend in any direction, so neither does the slat. At both ends of the slat there are bolts that slot into the wall. We reinforce roller shutters so they cannot be lifted or bent. We explain it in detail in roller shutter security.
If someone has already tried to get in
If you come back to your house in La Marina and find a bent shutter or a forced window, contact the Guardia Civil or the police and do not touch anything until they have seen it. Then look at the steps in attempted burglary. When it is possible, we secure the house and look at which shutters are worth reinforcing.
Which windows first
- Bedroom ones facing the back or a side.
- Those hidden by a hedge or a wall.
- Kitchen or utility room ones facing a patio.
Send us a photo
To find out whether your shutter can be reinforced, send us on WhatsApp a photo of the lowered shutter from outside, another of the bottom part and another of the sides. Message us in your language. If it can be done, we give you a fixed quote before we start. More about the municipality in locksmith in San Fulgencio.
